Zelensky: Ukraine Sent China a Request for a Meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv had invited Beijing to hold a meeting. According to him, the meeting is in the interests of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelensky said that he had not yet seen the peace plan for Ukraine proposed by China, but he was aware of it. “The fact that China is already talking about this is already some first steps, it’s very good,” the Ukrainian president said during a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez (quoted by RIA Novosti ) . However, Mr. Zelensky said that it was too early to “diagnose this document”.

Last week, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, who is in charge of foreign policy, announced that Beijing was preparing a peace plan to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. He did not provide details, but Kommersant’s sources reported that the plan could be made public on February 24, on the anniversary of the special military operation in Ukraine.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Wang Yi shared with him the key points of the plan, but the government will report its assessments later. According to Bloomberg , the plan includes a call to stop arms supplies to Ukraine.

On February 21-22, Wang Yi was on a working visit to Moscow. He met with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
